THE MONSOONS ARE HERE

Yesterday (June 28) we had a monsoon storm the likes of which we haven't seen in the four years we have lived in Green Valley.  Our rain gauge showed about 3 and 1/2 inches of rain and that was within a 2 hour period.  Bob decided he needed to drive around and assess the damage.

Bob and Boomer hung out in the garage watching the rain

this ocotillo didn't make it!

another flooded wash

This morning we walked around the walking path and these were pictures Bob took to show the aftermath.

Trees down all over

We love the monsoon rains, but this one was a little fierce; however, it is suppose to be 106 today so the puddles will dry up quickly.

ANOTHER TRY TO SEE THE TROGON

Bob and I took Lance and Pat up to Madera Canyon to show them where the Trogon is nesting. On our way up the trail, I happened to see a hummingbird fly into a tree.  On closer examination we saw her sitting on the nest.  In the top picture we would have missed her if we hadn't seen her fly into the nest.  The second picture is the top one just cropped so you can see her better.

I took this picture looking down on Lance, Bob, and Pat (and an unknown person).  Soon after I took this picture, we saw a Black Bear walking just up the hill from where Pat and Bob were standing.
We didn't get to see the Trogon, again!  I've decided I'm bad luck because every time someone goes to see the Trogon with out me - they see it!  We did however stop at Santa Rita Lodge on our way back down the mountain to do some executive birding .
That's where we saw this big guy!
Bob and I will have to make another trip up to Madera!  I have seen the Trogon every year since we've been here so I'll keep going up there until I see them.

CINCO DE MAYO

We celebrated Cinco de Mayo over at the rec center on the deck.  This year they combined Cinco de Mayo with the Potluck, so we had a much larger crowd than usual.

 Just pictures of the crowd:

There were prizes and Ron was the big winner!
This was the same night as the "Super Moon"  I got a couple of just so so pictures!

This was our third annual Cinco de Mayo on the deck!  Another good time!

LOOKING FOR THE TROGON

On Thursday, Scott, Bob and I went up to Madera Canyon to see if we could find the Trogon.

Bob and Scott patiently waiting for the Trogon to come back to the nest
We did get to see some wild life.

We didn't get to see the Trogon, but it was a nice day (except for the wind) and this gives us an excuse
to go back up and look for them again!

VISIT FROM THE IDAHO GANG

Vickey and Craig came down to see us on Monday the 16th and Jody and Dennis flew in on Thursday the 19th. We ate, drank, and mostly laughed until we couldn't laugh any more!

Vickey and Craig always make sport of my "clean" house so we made a sign for their "john" to show them how clean it really could be!
On Tuesday, the four of us went to the Pima Air Museum.  Bob and I had never been there before.  It was a very interesting.

Bob wanted so badly to fly in this airplane

This was one of the airplanes available to President Kennedy and VP Johnson

This one was huge!!

We hurried home from the Air Museum so we could attend happy hour.

Doc, Yvonne, Lynn, Vickey, Craig and Jean

We met Jody and Dennis in Tucson on Thursday at one of our favorite restaurants "Old Pueblo Grill".

In the mornings, the guys liked to sit outside and have coffee (with Bailey's of course)

and a beer if it was later

On Friday evening Jean and Doc invited us over for pizza.

Craig was taking the pictures - not his best work- or maybe it's his subjects?
On Saturday we went to Tubac to Wisdom's for Margaritas! First we stopped at the Tubac Golf Resort

Then on to Wisdom's

clowning around!

more clowning around

But mostly we sat around outside and visited!

We sure missed the Salisbury's, but enjoyed having everyone else here with us!  Can't wait until the next time.
